HOT ISSUE (Hangul: 핫이슈) was a South Korean girl group under S2 Entertainment. The group consisted of seven members: Mayna, Nahyun, Hyeongshin, Dana, Yewon, Yebin, and Dain. They made their debut on April 28, 2021 with the mini album Issue Maker.

On April 22, 2022, just 6 days before their first anniversary, S2 Entertainment announced that the group had disbanded.[1]

Their name is an abbreviation of "Honest, Outstanding, and Terrific" and "Issue"[2]

History[]

2020–2021: Pre-debut[]

On November 17, 2020, it was announced that S2 Entertainment was planning to debut their first girl group sometime in the first half of 2021.[3] On March 7, 2021, a teaser image with the phrase 'Coming Soon' was posted onto the agency's social media accounts.[4][5]

On March 16, 2021, S2 Entertainment revealed the group's debuting name, HOT ISSUE, as well as its official logo.[6] The same day, a teaser image featuring the silhouettes of three girls was posted onto the group's social media accounts.[7]

From March 22 to March 24, the profile photos of each member were released, starting with Nahyun, Mayna, Hyeongshin, Dana, Yewon, Yebin, and finally Dain.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14] The group's profile photo was released on March 25.[15]

2021: Debut with Issue Maker, first comeback with "Icons", fandom name[]

On April 7, 2021, it was revealed through the group's official social media accounts that they will debut on April 28 with their first mini album Issue Maker.[16] On this day, the mini album, along with its title track "GRATATA", were released.

On September 9, a teaser image posted on the group's social media accounts announced the group will be making their first comeback on September 29 with the single album "Icons".[17]

On September 27, 2021, HOT ISSUE announced their official fandom name to be "SURE". An acronym for "Surely U (Yours) Refulgently Ever", the name describes how HOT ISSUE and their fans will be together forever.[18]

2022: Disbandment[]

On April 22, 2022, just 6 days before their first anniversary, S2 Entertainment announced that the group had disbanded.[1]
